Present investigations were carried out during 2006- 2008 at Gajulamandyam village lands, Renigunta Mandal, Andhra Pradesh, India, to study the soil profile changes by the application of Press-mud, waste from sugar mills in alkaline soils. The soil quality was monitored up to the depth of 15 cms during the experiment. The comprehensive study of the soil profile during the alkaline soil reclamation process with press-mud showed that there is considerable improvement in the soil quality up to a depth of 15cm in 6 months, which establishes the importance of reclamation by applying pressmud biological inputs, though predominantly effective in the surface layers. This biological method of reclamation is sustainable.
