Abstract

The Ribonucleases activities (R.Nase, EC 2.7.,7.17) of the glycophytic mainly legumes i.e. Vigna sinensis, Cicer arietinum and Cajanus cajan were studied in relation to the salinity (NaCI) of the nutrient medium. A reduction in root growth and content of protein was observed, whereas a reverse trend was noted in case of RNases with the advancement of age and high salinity levels. Higher level of salt induced a marked increase in RNase activity and a close relationship was established between salt stress and high RNase activity.
