Abstract

Integrated effect of gypsum and farmyard manure on quality characteristics of rapeseed were investigated in the Upper Brahmaputra Valley Zone(UBVZ) and North Bank Plain Zone(NBPZ) of Assam. In respect of quality, integration of sulphur with farmyard manure exhibited better improvement in content of oil, protein, methionine and iodine value over either sulphur or farmyard manure alone. The highest oil content was found in treatment receiving 60 kg S ha−1 along with FYM either 1.5 or 3.0 t ha−1, whereas, in case of methionine and iodine value, it was associated with combined addition of 45 kg S ha−1 and 3.0 t FYM ha−1.Among the fatty acids, percentage of oleic acid and linoleic acid increased significantly, while, erucic acid per cent decreased on combined addition of 45 kg S ha−1 and 3.0 t farmyard manure per hectare and hence indicated better quality of rapeseed oil.
