Green gram (Vigna radiata L) seeds treated with some indigenous plant powders as seed protectants were stored for a period of 360 days. Amongst the plant powders, Azadirachta indica A. Juss (neem) leaves powder acted as best protectant throughout the period of storage. Vitex nigundo Linn (nirgundi) and Sphaeranthus indicus Linn (gorakhmundi) were the next best plants while Adhatoda vasica Nees (adulsa), Annona squamosa Linn (sitaphal) and Pongamia glabra Linn (karanj) leaves provided minimum protection. During storage, total carbohydrates (8.34% to 35.37%) and lipids (13% to 100%) contents were decreased whereas total proteins (2.51% to 30.54%) were increased. This variation was plant specific.
