Sharing of amplified DNA fragments among two parents and a set of F2 plants of Stylosanthes species was tested with RAPD, STS and SSR markers to estimate the closeness of population with parents. A high level of similarity among parents and population suggested the use of many primers in generating the polymorphic bands for construction of linkage map. The identified SSR markers can be used in generating the polymorphic bands.
