Abstract

Amaranth grain protein was analyzed by sodium dodecylsulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The results of 18 amaranth genotypes revealed the presence of 14 to 31 total bands. Maximum 31 bands were observed in IC-32195 and EC- 321561 genotypes while lowest 14 bands were observed in IC-42345 genotype. The bands of specific proteins were also observed in 5 genotypes of amaranthus. Dendrogram was prepared and 2 clusters were formed. On the basis of banding pattern, similarity index and grouping of the clusters, it that seed protein banding profiling can be useful for varietal identification.
