Abstract

Effect of brassinolide (BS) on different oxidative enzymes like peroxidase, catalase, polyphenol oxidase and leaf relative water content (RWC) of 15 day old seedlings of groundnut leaf under water deficit stress was studied. Six different cultivars viz., GG-2, GG-4, GG-6, TG-26, TG-37A and TPG-41 were selected. Cultivar GG-2 was characterized by lower RWC as well as higher catalase activity. TG-37A showed highest polyphenol activity. Cultivar GG-4 showed lowest polyphenol activity while cultivar TG-26 showed lowest catalase activity and highest RWC. As stress increased, activity of oxidative enzymes were also increased and RWC decreased. During water deficit stress condition, BS seed treatment improved stress tolerance capacity by improving oxidative enzyme levels.
