Abstract

The present study dealt with salt tolerance assessment of Isabgol genotypes viz. HI-5, HI-34, HI-96, GI-2 and PB-80 at the seed germination, flowering and maturity stages. Between the chloride and sulphate salt stress studied, chloride salt has proved more deleterious to the selected genotypes than sulphate. Enhanced levels of proline, total sugar and soluble protein were observed in tolerant cultivar of Isabgol under stress. The level of sodium ions has increased but level of potassium ions has decreased. Considering various growth and development parameters, the assessment of salt tolerance in selected genotypes, GI-2 was found to be most tolerant and PB-80 as most sensitive genotype. Relative tolerance of genotypes towards chloride and sulfate salts was as GI-2>HI-96>HI-34>HI-5>PB-80.
