Abstract

India, presently experiencing mounting non-communicable disease burden needs to be urgently addressed in a very decisive manner. I identify the severely skewed omega 6: omega 3 ratio, as one of the major risk factors, responsible for the dominance of inflammatory pathway in our population, as the root cause of devastating levels of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), hurting both health of the people and the economy of our country. I present unique, innovative, flax biovillage concept, developed and validated by us that invents the methods for resourcing omega-3 fatty acid from linseed to enrich several commonly consumed food products, including egg, milk and bread as tool to effectively tackle the rising NCD threat in our country. I fervently advocate that largescale promotion of linseed agriculture and adoption of flax biovillage, to reach omega-3 fatty acids through range of innovative linseed derived products, to every home and also simultaneously reducing the intake of proinflammatory omega-6 fatty acids through edible oil, will bring NCD under control in a very major way.
