Abstract

A study was conducted to evaluate the different guava cultivars for their biochemical composition and nutriducial quality at Department of Biochemistry, Anand Agricultural University, Anand. Mature and ripe fruit of eight red flesh guava cultivars (AGRS 1, AGRS 2, AGRS 3, AGRS 4, AGRS 5, AGRS 6, AGRS 7, AGRS 8) along with three checks (Dholka local check (LC), Lalit national check (NC) and Exotica (C) were selected for analysis. The data on biochemical composition revealed that total soluble sugars (12.74%), carotenoid (39.11 mg/100g) and ascorbic acid (232.45 mg/100 g) were found to be higher in AGRS 3. The cv. AGRS 1 was registered with higher amount of total soluble solids (15.33 oBrix) and titrable acidity (0.24%). The maximum accumulation of reducing sugars (8.15%) and lycopene was recorded in AGRS 8 and AGRS 7, respectively.
