Abstract

In the present study, antibacterial activity of 2 plants collected from Hassan district of Karnataka, India by agar well diffusion assay was determined. Aqueous extract of all the plants were prepared by maceration process. Both the plants were capable of inhibiting pathogenic bacteria but to a variable extent. Among selected plants, Diospyros montana Roxb. displayed marked antibacterial activity as evidenced by wider zone of inhibition when compared with Sansevieria Trifasciata Prain. The maximum inhibition was found in Escherichia coli followed by Klebsiella pneumonia, Pseudomonas aeruginos, and Salmonella typhi. It is evident that the extracts possess antibacterial properties.
