To evaluate various prosthodontic materials and techniques used during complete denture fabrication by the private dental practitioners.
A survey was conducted to determine the prosthodontic techniques followed by private practitioners in Gujarat. A pretested questionnaire performa containing questions on complete denture fabrication was prepared. A total of 98 subjects were included in the final study.
A total of 80.4% of the practitioners used to do the whole prosthetic treatment themselves. A total of 57% still use impression compound for primary impression, 88% use green stick for border moulding, 67% use zinc-oxide eugenol paste as the material of choice for final impression, 56% dentists prefer occlusion at maximum intercuspation. Most practitioners used conventional materials and techniques for fabrication of complete dentures.
The findings from this study showed that most of the respondents did not follow the techniques and procedures which had been deemed to be clinically essential for the successful prosthodontic treatment and there was a need for continuing dental education programs for the private practitioners for upgradation of their clinical skills.
