The present work describes the preparation of long oil length alkyd and epoxy resins and their blending at different concentrations to improve the coating properties. A solvent system consisting of toluene, butanol and ethanol was used for the preparation of blends. It was found that the blends of epoxy and alkyd resins showed better coating properties such as drying properties, hardness, gloss, adhesion, storage stability and impact resistance than the individual resins. However, the water resistance of alkyd resin was not improved by blending with epoxy resin. The results showed an excellent compatibility of alkyd resin with epoxy resin as far as coating properties are concerned.
