C3A, C3S and C2S samples were prepared by direct solid state reactions between the parent oxides. The formation of these compounds was confirmed by X-ray analysis. Samples were hydrated at 25°C in a humidity chamber at 100% RH, for three months. The phases resulting from hydration were confirmed by XRD analysis. The samples were then subjected to attack of HCl and NH4NO3 at different concentrations: In case of HCl, the extent of attack was found to increase with increased acid concentration, while in case of NH4NO3 solution, it showed some irregularities. The reaction kinetics was followed up and each time, the controlling step was determined.
