We have successfully synthesized several derivatives of pyrimidine which can be used as potential anticancer agent. Anticancer study of these compounds will be taken up in next work. The synthesised compounds are listed as 2hydroxy-4,6-dimethyl pyrimidine (I): 2-hydroxy-4-methyl-6-{4′-[N,N-bis(2chloroethylyl) amino] styryl} pyrimidine (II), 2-hydroxy-4-methyl-6-{4′[N,N-bis(2-chloroethylyl) amino] styryl} pyrimidine hydrochloride(III), 2hydroxy-4-methyl-6-{4′-[N,N-bis(2-chloroethylyl) amino] distyryl} pyrimidine (IV), 2-hydroxy-4-methyl-6-{4′-[N,N-bis(2-chloroethylyl) amino] distyryl} pyrimidine hydrochloride (V), 2-mercapto-4,6-dimethyl pyrimidine (VI), 2-mercapto-4-methyl-6-{4′-[N,N-bis(2-chloroethylyl) amino] styryl} pyrimidine (VII), 2-mercapto-4-methyl-6-{4′-[N,N-bis(2-chloroethylyl) amino] styryl} pyrimidine hydrochloride (VIII), 2-mercapto-4-methyl-6-{4′[N,N-bis(2-chloroethylyl) amino] distyryl} pyrimidine (IX), 2-mercapto-4methyl-6-{4′-[N,N-bis(2-chloroethylyl) amino] distyryl} pyrimidine hydrochloride (X). The IR spectra and the elemental analysis of the compounds have been interpreted and the structures have been established.
