Eighteen new complexes of the type M(CO)5(SB1–3), M(CO)4(SB1–3), where M=Cr, Mo & W has been synthesized by the photochemical reaction of metal carbonyl M(CO)6 with 2-Hydroxy-1-napthaldehyde Propanesulfonylhydrazone(SB1), 2-Hydroxy-1-napthaldehyde Butanesulfonylhydrazone(SB2),2-Hydroxy-1-napthaldehyde pentanesulfonylhydrazone(SB3). Both the ligands & their complexes were characterized on the basis of physical properties, elemental analysis data, infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. It was found that the ligands have monodentate and bidentate nature. As monodentate ligand coordinate with metal through their imine nitrogen donor atom in M(CO)5(SB1–3), while as bidentate ligand coordinate with metal through their imine nitrogen donor atom and hydroxyl oxygen donor atom in M(CO)4(SB1–3). Thus replacing one and two CO molecule to maintain charge density on metal centre.
