Sorption of heavy metal ions Cd2+, Hg2+ & Pb2+ has been studied from industrial effluents using synthetic analogue of the mica mineral Glauconitic. Effect of various parameters was investigated by batch process at 25±0.01°C. Sorption of metal ions increased with increase in contact time, sorbent dose and temperature and decreased with increase in acidity of the medium. The sorbent was synthesized by hydrothermal method and characterized by XRD, EDAX, FTIR, TGA and SEM techniques. From the characterization composition of the material is found to be (Na0.5Fe4.9(Si5.3Al0.5O14.4)(OH)4) studies also showed that the material is amorphous in nature and found to have good removal efficiency for heavy metal ions.
