Abstract

This study investigates the adult learners’ attitude toward MOOCs offered through the SWAYAM platform in Assam using a descriptive survey method. The research encompasses all adult learners enrolled in academic programmes within the state, with a sample of 172 postgraduate students from a university in Assam, selected through simple random sampling. The “Scale on Attitude towards SWAYAM MOOCs”, developed and standardised by the investigator, demonstrated high validity and reliability. Statistical analyses, including mean, standard deviation (SD), and t-tests, were used to evaluate the data. Results revealed that 79.63% of participants exhibited a positive attitude towards SWAYAM MOOCs. Interestingly, only 5.8% of respondents had the most favourable attitude, while a significant proportion (74.0%) displayed average or above-average attitudes. Conversely, a minority (15.6%) showed below-average or low-average attitudes. No statistically significant differences were found based on gender or age groups, but significant differences were observed between adult learners’ disciplines (arts vs. science) and educational levels (undergraduate vs. postgraduate). These findings offer valuable insights into the varying attitudes toward MOOCs offered through the SWAYAM platform among adult learners in Assam, particularly regarding academic discipline and educational level.
