Microbial fuel cells could be an attractive technology for wastewater treatment and electricity generation. In the present contribution, performance of mediator-less microbial fuel cell was evaluated to treat potato wastewater. Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) were typically designed as a two-chamber system with the bacteria in the anode chamber separated from the cathode chamber by a proton exchange membrane (NafionTM 117). MFCs performed well for COD removal and electricity generation from the wastewater, demonstrating the effectiveness of these devices for wastewater treatment with COD removal and electricity generation. Up to 88.91% COD removal and 14.33 mA current generation achieved during 10 days of operation.
