Current trends in microalgae harvesting technology has gained major focus in modern world scenario as it can subsidize an increasing demand for fuel and energy. Assam, a north eastern state of India, is very rich in algal diversity as indicated by its already reported flora and fauna. Therefore, an attempt was made to screen out some oleaginous microalgae from Dhemaji district of Assam, India. A total number of 17 oleaginous microalgal species from a pool of 59 collected species belonging to an array of families were identified. Total lipid content of the tested microalgal cultures were found to be in a range of 4.93 ± 0.75mean value ± S.D to 16.61 ± 0.45 mean value ± S.D per 100 gm of dry weight.
