Abstract

An investigation was carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of organic manure on yield of hybrid rice. There were six treatments namely poultry manure, pig manure, Farm yard manure, rural compost and city compost @ 10 t ha−1, including inorganic source (120 kgN+60kg P2Os + 40 kg k2O ha−1). The results of the study revealed that poultry manure had superior yield attributing traits like effective tillers hill−1 (6.1 and 6.0), panicle length (25.1 and 23.3 cm), grains panicle−1 (174 and 166), and weight of 1000 grain (24.3 and 24.3 g) including yield over other organic treatments during both the years (2002 and 2003) respectively. However none of the organic treatments surpassed the inorganic fertilizers, which had maximum values of yield attributes and yield during both the years. B:C ratio was also high under poultry manure and treatment of inorganic fertilizers.
