A field experiment was conducted at Norman E. Borlauge Crop Research Centre, Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar during 2008–09 to study the effect of moong straw on soil properties under INM in long term rice-wheat cropping system. Twelve treatments were replicated twice in split plot design with 12 main and 2 sub plots. Bulk density, pH, electrical conductivity, organic carbon, available nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and cation exchange capacity of soil were determined. The treatments receiving 100% N or NPK as well as where 50% N was applied through moong straw were found better than all other treatments and moong straw proved the best among organic sources of N studied in respect of its effect on nutrient status in soil and other soil properties.
