Abstract

The study on the effect of different concentrations of ten amino acids on callus growth was studied by supplementing the Murashige and Skoog medium with different concentrations of amino acids on rice genotype ‘HUR 4–3’. It was found that arginine and glutamine increased while, methionine and phenylalanine gave decrease in callus fresh and dry weight as compared to the control. It was also found that both concentrations of ornithine, 0.5 g/l lysine, citrulline and 1.0 g/l threonine caused significant increase in means of fresh callus weight and dry weight above the control.

The MS medium was supplemented with different concentrations of ten amino acids and it was found that arginine and glutamine increased the callus fresh and dry weight of rice variety ‘HUR 4–3’.
