Abstract

This paper presents a new approach for solving the optimal power flow problem. In this approach we propose to use fuzzy logic techniques to dynamically control parameter settings of genetic algorithms (GA's). We describe the Dynamic Parametric GA: a GA that uses a fuzzy knowledgebased system to control GA parameters such as the mutation and the crossover probability. We then introduce a technique for automatically design and tune the fuzzy knowledgebase system using GA's. The proposed method was applied to a practical 14-bus system to show its feasibility and capabilities. The numerical and graphical results show that the proposed approach is faster and more robust than the GA's.
