This paper deals with the efficient transmission of JPEG compressed images over Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) systems employing spatial multiplexing. The scheme is developed by combining the advantages of multiple antenna systems and linear receivers. We exploit the fact that all parts of an image are equally important and there can be compensation in some parts to achieve less error in the significant part of the image. Depending upon the SINR of various paths, the best antenna is selected to transmit the most important feature of the image like edge and the next best antenna to transmit the other important feature of the image. This is referred to as image transmission with antenna selection and the performance is evaluated by V-BLAST Zero-Forcing (ZF) receivers. The proposed scheme provides significant image quality improvement and less distortion compared to known schemes, with symbol error rate reduced to 25 for Eb/No of 10 dB.
