This paper presents a new technique for transient and permanent fault identification in adaptive reclosure by using the fault generated high frequency current transients. A specifically designed transient and permanent fault identification unit is used to capture high frequency current noise generated by the fault arc. Wavelet transform is used to distinguish between the transient and permanent fault by ensuring the presence of secondary arc.
