In this paper impact characteristics of polymer mesh reinforced ferrocement slabs have been investigated using, the drop-weight method and compared with the characteristics of slabs reinforced with chicken mesh under identical conditions in terms of number of layers (one layer to three layers) and two support condition (sand bed and simply support conditions). The results indicate that polymer mesh reinforced ferrocement slab specimens absorb about 50% of the energy absorbed by slabs reinforced with chicken mesh and that the above characteristic i.e. the lower energy absorption may be attributed to poor bonding between the polymer mesh and matrix. However, similar behaviour is seen with respect to failure pattern with the two types of mesh reinforcement.
