Abstract

The demand for mobile service has motivated research in updating existing high speed wire line (fixed) communication networks with wireless networks. In wireless/mobile networks, users freely change their point of attachment while they are connected. MIPv6 allows a mobile node to transparently maintain connections while moving from one subnet to another. Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6), an enhanced Mobile IPv6 protocol, provides a scheme for performing registrations locally in the foreign network, thereby reducing the number of signaling messages forwarded to the home network as well as lowering the signaling latency that occurs when a mobile node moves from one foreign network to another. In this paper, we introduce four HMIPv6 architectures based on two terms i.e. dynamic and distributed. Further, impact of these architectures on various parameters viz. packet delivery cost, user population, static and dynamic MNs, MAP domain size analyzed.
