The present study highlights an analysis of flow and thermal characteristics of a diesel spray impinging on a flat wall using a model of the dispersion process. The objective of the present study is to simulate the penetration and mixing of gas-liquid phase in the wall interaction process. The high-pressure diesel spray is injected in a high temperature wall from the single hole nozzle of a Common Rail Direct Injection (CRDI) engine. A model is developed for droplet breakup including the fuel film formation on the wall. Due to the high temperature wall, the heat is transferred from the wall to the droplet, the breakup behavior of impinging droplets owing to boiling of the liquid-solid interface and the dispersion process. The present study is compared with the available experimental results, which have qualitative agreement. A better dispersion and mixing is obtained when the injection pressure increases. Also the injector nozzle position plays an important role for penetration and mixing of diesel spray and air particles.
