Abstract

Transient stability of the power system can be improved by placing the FACTS controllers. This paper deals with the design of controller for SVC for the improvement of power system transient stability using Direct Feedback Linearization (DFL) technique. SVC along with its controller installed at the mid point of the transmission line is evaluated on a weakly interconnected power system. Time domain simulation under severe disturbances is carried out to examine the system response. The performance of the controller is further compared with that of the conventional capacitor switching. The results show the improved performance impact of proposed controller over conventional controller for transient stability improvement. Simulation was carried out in MATLAB/SIMULINK and the system selected was WSCC system.
