Abstract

The purpose of this paper was to analyze the behavior of the tool wear, particularly; the differences in the flank wear when the turning process starts with a worn tool which, was removed of the tool holder but used it later in a new cutting process and when the turning process starts with a new tool which is not removed of the tool holder during all cutting process. The analysis was done by an experimental design obtained a set of regression equations for the prediction of the tool wear. The results show that the only mathematic model for the prediction of the tool wear when the turning process started with a new tool which, was not removed of the tool holder during all cutting process and the models for the prediction of the tool wear when the turning process started with a worn tool which was removed of the tool holder and used it later, are significantly different at the final stage of tool life.
