Abstract

A single-phase wide line voltage range, AC-DC buck converter having high power factor is proposed in this paper. This converter is composed of controllable switches and fast switching diodes and functions in two operating modes. It has high power factor, sinusoidal input current and is driven by a simple control strategy. The converter with the new control scheme was simulated in a computer and experiments were performed to check the validity. The operating modes, mathematical analysis, control strategy are presented along with the simulation and experimental results for a 1kW prototype. This converter has potential applications in battery charging applications.
