Abstract

In this study, die angle for the non-circular rods extrusion process are optimized to produce desirable microstructure in the extrudate at maximum available machine speed. Microstructure correlation has been carried out using dynamic material modeling (DMM). For this, processing parameters are selected using the processing maps. Design problem is analytically formulated. Plots between ram velocity and die angle are drawn to select the later based on the machine velocity. Using this approach two rod extrusion dies viz. triangular and square cross sections are successfully designed.
