Experiments have been conducted to study the influence of various parameters on oxygen stripping for a two stage deaerator. It has been observed that an increase in mass flow rate of water increases heat and mass transfer coefficients, in both the stages of the deaerator. Neither the deaerator pressure nor the increase in length of the second stage had any significant effect on heat transfer coefficients in the range 0.033 < m < 0.125 kg/s, 120 < L/D1 < 210 and 1.1 < Ts/Ti < 1.4 tested. The theoretical analysis of Hasson et al. [1] is found to be applicable to large diameter jets and could not predict heat transfer coefficients for jets emanating from tray holes.
The increase in deaerator pressure enhances the mass transfer coefficient by 14 percent, whereas the length has no significant effect on mass transfer coefficient in the second stage. The empirical correlations of Mayinger [8] predict the mass transfer coefficients satisfactorily in the experimental range tested. The diffusion of oxygen from deaerator feed water which is in very small quantities can be satisfactorily estimated with the theoretical analysis.
