Abstract

This paper discusses a new approach of image enhancement and the use of modified bacterial foraging for enhancement. We introduced a new global contrast intensification operator (GCIO), which contains three parameters, viz., intensification parameter, fuzzifier, and the crossover point, for image enhancement.

For mixed exposed images, the proposed Fuzzification function has been modified by applying both the GCIO operator and Power Transformation operator separately on under exposed region and over exposed regions respectively in fuzzy domain and then combining the two regions to get the full image.

For under exposed region of the image the contrast of V is stretched locally by changing a parameter in the global intensification operator (GCIO). For over exposed region of the image the over intensity values are contracted locally by power Transformation operator proposed in the paper. The areas of under and over exposed regions are made varied by defining an expression as to determine the dividing line between the two regions. Both the operator are applied separately on the respective regions simultaneously and then combined back to a full image in fuzzy domain. This fuzzy domain range pixel values have been converted back to original spatial domain.
