Abstract

A multiaxial fatigue criterion involving nonlinear combination of normal stress and shear stress is proposed for high cycle fatigue life prediction based on the critical plane approach. The stress sensitivity coefficients are taken into consideration and the effective stress acting on the critical plane is determined The proposed fatigue criteria was evaluated for a wide range of materials from extreme brittle materials to very ductile metals and validated with experimental. Accurate high cycle fatigue strength prediction is possible and results obtained are comparable to methods proposed by McDiarmid and Carpinteri.
