Abstract

In centrifugal casting solidification of melt takes place in a rotating mould under the influence of centrifugal forces. The molten metal is centrifugally thrown towards the inside mold wall, where it solidifies after cooling. Spinning speed is a variable for attaining centrifugal force. The aim of present investigation is to study the effect of rotational speed in centrifugal casting process. The speed of the rotation varies with metal, alloy and size and shape being cast. Pure Tin is used for present investigation. The effect of thicknesses of casting is also studied. As the thickness of casting increases speed required to form liquid cylinder also increases. The hardness of cast increases with increase in mould speed and decreases with increase in casting thickness.
