Cost effective materials are a collection of strategies that use innovative materials. The main aims of such technologies are to the effect, savings without compromising the strength, durability and comfort and elegance of materials. Though these are labelled low cost technologies these are not low in quality. The scope of this project is to study about the performance of alternate methods of manufacturing masonry units, which includes the strength characteristics and water absorption. The results of the study were heartening as, when compared to the conventional clay bricks, the various combinations of mud bricks, mud bricks with slag, mud bricks with quarry waste, fly ash bricks with quarry waste and FaL-G bricks all gave better performance.
