Thermal behavior of long-term underground cold-water reservoir and role of it in diminishing energy consumption and air pollution was investigated experimentally. The cool water survey storage tank is a cylindrical underground water reservoir with 12 meters in height and a domed shape roof, which is equipped with four wind towers. These historic reservoirs were used as a source of cold drinking water for dry summer season. The cylindrical underground reservoir during the study was filled with water in winter and remained intact till beginning of discharge cycle. Temperature data were measured in different points of tank. It was observed that in hottest months of season, July, when the temperature of water was in the range of 12.7 to 13.8°C during the whole summer period whilst the outside ambient temperature was reached up to 35 to 40°C. That is good and convenient with drinking water standards. Also, with applying of passive cooling system for example cistern we can decline the emerging of various pollutants such as CO2 (which forms 55% of greenhouse gasses effect for global warming), SO2 and NOx which utilize fossil fules for producing electrical energy.
