Instruction Power distribution system in the country is characterized by high power losses, poor reliability of supply, frequent equipment burnouts, etc. The traditional approach in electric power generation is to have centralized plants distributing electricity through an extensive transmission & distribution network. Distribution generation (DG) provides electric power at a site closer to the customer, eliminating the unnecessary transmission and distribution costs. Majority of these problems can be attributed to poor planning and low operational efficiency of the distribution network. Interfacing of solar Photo Voltaic (PV) array to the grid/distribution network has been considered as a feasible option for reducing the losses and meeting the increasing demand on a distribution network. In this context PI and average current mode controllers have been proposed in this project, for the pulse width modulated voltage source inverter employed for integrating the PV array to the distribution network. The proposed controllers have been designed and simulated using Power system block set of the MATLAB software. Simulation results confirm that the developed controllers can be successfully employed to vary the Real and Reactive power of the Inverter. Further, the reference input to the controller has been suitably chosen to minimize the imbalance in the system and thereby reducing losses.
