Abstract

This paper presents the results of Finite Element Analysis on the influence of confinement on the behavior of a model angle shaped footing resting on soil. Confinement means to restrict the lateral movement of soil by providing either an independent confinement or making the confinement as an integral part of the footing. It has been found that by confining the soil, there is a reduction in the settlement and hence an increase in the bearing capacity of soil. The bearing capacity is affected by many factors; the eccentricity is one of them.
