The Footing are often subjected to eccentric loading due to i) moments with or without axial forces ii) the oblique loading iii) their location in the vicinity of property line. Due to eccentric loading the footing tilts and the pressure below the footing does not remain uniform. The tilt of the footing increases with the increase in the eccentricity and the bearing capacity reduces considerably. Therefore, footing sizes increases and makes the design uneconomical. Many researchers have studied the effect of lateral confinement on sandy soils and have concluded that the lateral confinement is an effective way of increasing the ultimate bearing capacity as the settlement of the footing reduces considerably. Therefore an analysis of angle shaped footing under eccentric loading has been carried out in the present study. One side footing projection having different angle as well as length of projection of footing confines the soil and prevents its lateral moment. It was concluded that eccentrically loaded footing can be designed for no or negligible tilt by giving footing an angle shaped. The length and angle of footing projection will depend upon the eccentricity width ratio.
