The equipments condition and performance determines the output of any industry. Systematic operation and maintenance (O & M) practices lead to better availability of auxiliary equipments. In the article, we have considered a Boiler industry. Pulverizing mills, induced draught and forced draught fans and slag conveyors are the important auxiliary equipments for boilers. These auxiliary equipments are needed to utilize the mined fuel and to give a better performance. Of all the equipments mentioned above, pulverizing mills is one of the important equipments which pulverize the fuel into minute particles for better combustion without any major losses and also the time taken to combust the fuel is reduced. The damage of pulverizing mill leads to the shut down of the boiler unit. In the industry it is observed that the outage of pulverizing mill can reduce the power generation by 50%. Until the mills are repaired the boiler unit remains shut down. This shows the importance and vitality of the pulverizing mills in the operation of boiler unit. In this project, we have studied all possible failures that can occur in pulverizing mills and find out possible remedial solutions and preventive actions. The failure of the pulverizing mills for a period of 6 months in the year 2008 were recorded and analyzed. The reasons for the failures were analyzed and suitable suggestions were given for minimizing such failures in future.
