The paper started by investigating the rate of fuel wood consumption across the world and also looked at the harvesting methods, which was discovered to be very poor in the developing countries. Nigeria, for example, depends on shrubs and early thinnings for most of its domestic energy requirement and the fuel materials are uneconomically harvested. The paper, penultimate, looked at the lumbering situation in Nigeria and discovered that less than half of the fell trees are harvested as lumbers while the remaining are usually left to rot away in the deep jungles. It therefore, concluded that these left over, which are excellent fuel wood and feedstock for charcoal production should be harnessed by bringing them out of the forest to areas more accessible to the ordinary people.
