Abstract

Concrete structures deteriorating day by day due to various reasons, like environmental effect, error in construction, error in design and poor maintenance of the structures. Also, change of use. Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) external reinforcement is used extensively to address the strength requirements related to shear & flexure in structural systems. FRP composite materials are of great interest to the civil engineering community because of their superior properties, such as high stiffness and strength as well as ease of installation, when compared to other repair materials. This paper deals, the behavior and performance of reinforced concrete members, strengthened with externally bonded Glass fibre (GFRP) sheets. For this study, eight number of reinforced concrete beams were strengthened in flexure zone and shear zone (including one control beam). E Glass fibre was selected for strengthening of reinforced concrete rectangular beams. Various type of Glass fibre also used, Such as woven roving mat, chopped strand mat and combination of these. Epoxy resin was used as adhesive for strengthening of beams.
