Abstract

Contingency analysis is an essential activity in planning, operation and control of power systems. Large power systems supplying power to a vast geographical area through a network of interconnections are subjected to constantly fluctuating loads. In order to prevent the disruption of power due to line outage because of the allocation and reallocation of power to each line should be correctly monitored. Contingency studies determine the effects of the line/equipment outages on the rest of the power system. In this paper a unique method is proposed which determines the voltages and line flows both active and reactive at the post outage steady state using complex valued neural network and the results are compared. A complex valued neural network CVNN consists of complex valued inputs, thresholds, weights and outputs.
