Abstract

In general, induction motors plays a vital role in the industrial, agricultural, utility and general purpose applications. To be specific, these motors when it operates along with variable speed drives for certain applications necessitates a careful selection/manufacture to improve its reliability as its breakdown will not only affects the cost for rewinding but also cost of productivity. Hence it is to be noted that the selection of motors found an important criteria based on its application or manufacture motors to suit to such requirements. A motor manufactured with modified polyester insulated winding wire and the other with dual coated winding wire has been tested and the outcome of the findings is presented. This paper aims to analyze the effect of insulation on the reliability of the winding wire of the motor when it operates in such environments.
