Abstract

This work presents a new identification string (IS) for kinematic chains (KC's) and their derive mechanisms. This identification string detects isomorphism in mechanisms and consists of number of links & joints, types of link, E, Z, D, V chains and (WDΣ) & (WDmax). (WDΣ) & (WDmax) are the two structural invariants derived from the eigen spectrum of [WD] matrix. The identification of distinct KC's and their derived mechanisms is necessary to select the best possible mechanism at conceptual stage of design.
