Abstract

Design of a control logic is very much important. Proper control logic leads a dynamic system to a desired output or stability. Control logic ranges from decision-making for social and economical systems through trajectory control for robots and vehicles to the development of optimal therapeutic protocols for treating disease. If the control objective can be expressed as a quantitative criterion, then optimization of this criterion establishes a feasible design for control logic. In the present work, mainly two different techniques of the optimal control, in a batch reactor system is used. The two methods are Steepest Descent and Levenberg-Marquardt method. A highly non-linear system, batch reaction process is selected for the hydrolysis reaction of acetic anhydride in the presence of sulfuric acid as catalyst. An experimental set up for the batch reactor has been set and the readings for time versus temperature were noted. A MATLAB programme is written for the optimization and analysis is done on the basis of the outputs for both the methods.
