Abstract

In a real time application of fuel cell, the change in cell current does not result in an immediate change in the voltage due to the existence of the charge double layer in the fuel cell. The dynamic analysis deals with the variation of cell voltage with respect to time. The model takes care of the charge double layer capacitance effect for the purpose of knowing the dynamic response of the fuel cell. It is observed that the delay time decreases with the decrease in the capacitance value. Further we have investigated the steady and transient components of voltages. The simulation results show that the transient component voltage changes acutely with the load current near the minimum and maximum currents and hence the transient component voltage is highly non-linear. The simulation results are compared well with the experimental data of BCS 500W PEM fuel cell stack. Thus, this study can be used for design optimization of fuel cells, stacks, and complete fuel cell power system.
